Geraldine Staten Johnson was born with Polycystic Kidney Disease. She was a dialysis patient for nine years and five months. Geraldine has witnessed firsthand the hardships of being a dialysis patient and the struggles that kidney patients endure. She was blessed in Oct. 2010 to receive a kidney transplant. The Lord put on her heart to share her blessings with others; therefore through God’s help and guidance, in 2012 she created a fund to help others. The Okefenokee Kidney Charity, Inc. formally known as the Geraldine Staten Johnson Emergency Kidney Fund was established to help individuals with kidney diseases and related diseases is now a domestic nonprofit 501(c) 3 public charity organization. This charity benefits kidney and kidney related disease patients. It assists patients with travel expenses to medical exams, treatments, transplant testing, transplants, food, co-pays for medicines and Doctors’ visits, living expenses, and basic needs of the patients. The areas in which the charity serves are Waycross, Ware County, Pierce County, Brantley County, and Bacon County. Tax -deductible contributions from individuals, businesses, and organizations are the charity’s main source of funding.
